Principal's Spotlight on Learning: Safety & Security

Principal's Spotlight on Learning

by Melissa Edwards, Liberty principal

At Liberty Middle School, safety and security are prioritized through a comprehensive approach that includes regular drills and the presence of dedicated security personnel. The Liberty conducts fire drills to ensure that students and staff know the proper evacuation routes and procedures in case of a fire. Lockdown drills are practiced to prepare for potential intruder situations, ensuring everyone knows how to secure classrooms and maintain safety until the all-clear is given. Tornado drills are also held to practice moving to designated safe areas within the school in case of severe weather.

Liberty is further secured by having a full-time School Resource Officer (SRO), who is a law enforcement professional responsible for maintaining a visible presence, providing safety education, and responding to emergencies. Additionally, the school employs two School Safety Officers, who assist in monitoring the school grounds, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and supporting the SRO in maintaining a secure environment for students and staff.

This combination of routine safety drills and a dedicated security team helps to create a safe and well-prepared environment for the school community.
